The Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) is a national strategic program aimed at strengthening the village economy by consolidating business units based on local potential. However, most KDMPs in Gondanglegi District, Malang Regency, have only recently been institutionally established and lack a structured database of village economic potential; consequently, there is a risk that planned business units may not align with the area's actual potential. This community service activity aimed to provide guidance on creating a village economic potential map—developed through a participatory process—to serve as a foundation for KDMP business planning. The activity took place on July 1, 2026, in Gondanglegi District, Malang Regency, with 38 participants, including 14 village heads from across the district, 14 KDMP chairpersons, and representatives from Fatayat NU Gondanglegi. The methods employed included Focus Group Discussions (FGD), participatory mapping, brainstorming sessions, and guidance in drafting potential maps for each village. The activity successfully identified key sectors across the 14 villages—such as food crop agriculture, livestock farming, food-processing MSMEs, handicrafts, and tourism potential—and resulted in a mutually agreed-upon draft of village economic potential maps to serve as a reference for developing KDMP business units. Participants also reported an improved understanding of the importance of accurate, participatory village potential data as a basis for developing cooperative businesses that are targeted and sustainable. This activity is expected to serve as a model for guidance methods in other districts seeking to strengthen village economies through the Merah Putih Village Cooperative.
