Peer Review Process

The peer-review process is an integral part of scientific publication to validate manuscripts. The evaluation of manuscript quality takes place before the manuscript is published. Expert reviewers in the relevant field conduct reviews and provide comments on the accepted manuscript. This process is intended to assist the editor in determining whether the manuscript should be published in the Journal of Islamic Boarding School Studies. Key points of the review process are as follows:

  1. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are initially selected by the editorial team.
  2. Manuscripts that pass the review are sent to at least two reviewers for assessment.
  3. Reviewers independently provide recommendations to the journal editor regarding whether to reject or accept the manuscript (with or without revisions).
  4. The journal editor reviews all expert reviewer comments and makes decisions to accept or reject the manuscript in several forms:
    • Acceptance of submission.
    • Request for revision (manuscript needs revision and is not returned for further review).
    • Resubmission for review (manuscript needs revision and is returned to the reviewer).
    • Resubmission (manuscript should be submitted to another journal's publisher).
    • Rejection to submit (manuscript is rejected).
    • View comments (reviewer comments, politely declined).

The peer-review process for journal publication is essentially a quality control mechanism in which experts evaluate manuscripts to ensure the quality of the published work. However, reviewers do not make decisions to accept or reject papers; they propose decisions. In journals, the authority for decision-making lies solely with the journal editor or editorial board.
