Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to this journal must follow the focus, scope, and author guidelines, and must demonstrate scientific merit or novelty appropriate to them. Every manuscript is subject to peer review so that only work of sound quality, objectivity, and academic integrity is published.

1. Submission Requirements

  • The manuscript must match the focus and scope of the journal and follow the Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript must be original and free from plagiarism. Authors are encouraged to check similarity with detection software before submitting.
  • Editors screen every submission for text overlap before it is sent for review, in line with the Plagiarism Policy.

2. Review Stages

  1. Editorial screening. The editorial team checks the manuscript for fit with the focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, and similarity.
  2. Reviewer assignment. Manuscripts that pass screening are sent anonymously to expert reviewers. The identities of authors and reviewers are not disclosed to each other.
  3. Peer review. The reviewers evaluate the manuscript and give scientific feedback and a recommendation. Manuscripts generally undergo a single round of review.
  4. Editorial decision. Based on the reviewers' comments, the editors decide whether to accept the manuscript, accept it subject to revision, or reject it.
  5. Revision. If revisions are requested, the corresponding author submits the revised manuscript within two weeks, together with a response to the reviewers' comments. The editors check that the comments have been addressed; a further round is held only when necessary.
  6. Final decision and publication. The Principal Editors make the final decision. The Editor-in-Chief manages the publication of accepted articles, including their order.

3. Reviewers

Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent expert reviewers, and by more reviewers when the editors consider it necessary.

  • Reviewers are chosen by the editors according to their expertise in the subject of the manuscript.
  • Reviewers must not have conflicts of interest with the authors or institutions connected to the manuscript.
  • Reviewers must keep all information about the manuscript confidential and work objectively within the agreed time, as set out in the Publication Ethics.

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers assess each manuscript on the following aspects:

  • Relevance to the focus and scope of the journal.
  • Originality, novelty, and contribution to Islamic legal studies.
  • Soundness of the research method, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Quality and currency of references and accuracy of citations.
  • Clarity of argument, language, and structure.
  • Compliance with publication ethics.

5. Timeline

  • Authors can expect a decision, or an explanation for any delay, within two months of receipt of the manuscript.
  • If revisions are requested, the corresponding author should submit the revised manuscript within two weeks.

6. Confidentiality

As outlined in our Publication Ethics, every manuscript under review is treated as confidential before publication. Editors and reviewers must not disclose or use any information from the manuscript for other purposes.

7. Appeals and Complaints

Authors who disagree with an editorial decision may send a written appeal with a clear justification through the Contact page. The Editorial Board will reconsider the decision and reply to the author.
