Plagiarism Policy

MAQASHID: Jurnal Hukum Islam takes plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and any form of research misconduct very seriously. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original and unpublished work.

Definitions

  • Plagiarism: using the words, data, or ideas of others without proper attribution, including text recycling.
  • Self-plagiarism: reusing one's own previously published work or substantial parts of it without disclosure and proper citation.
  • Duplicate submission: submitting the same manuscript, or one with substantial overlap, to more than one journal at the same time, or submitting work that has already been published.

Screening Process and Similarity Threshold

  • Plagiarism Screening: Every submitted manuscript is screened for similarity using Turnitin prior to the peer-review process.
  • Similarity Tolerance: The maximum acceptable similarity index is 30%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will not proceed to the review stage until appropriately revised.

The editors interpret the similarity report in context, including the sources of the overlap and whether quotations and references are properly cited.

Handling Plagiarism Issues

If plagiarism or a high similarity score is detected by the editorial board, editors, or reviewers at any stage of the editorial process (before or after acceptance):

  1. The editorial team will notify the author(s) with the similarity report.
  2. The author(s) will be requested to rewrite the overlapping content, clarify the text, or properly cite the original sources.
  3. If severe or uncorrected plagiarism is found, the manuscript will be subject to immediate rejection.

After publication: if plagiarism is found in a published article, the journal follows the correction and retraction procedure described in the Publication Ethics. Authors of plagiarized material may face sanctions regarding future submissions.

Author Responsibilities

Authors must:

  • submit original work that has not been published and is not under review elsewhere;
  • cite and acknowledge all sources of words, data, and ideas used, including their own earlier work;
  • complete the form for the authenticity of the article required in the Author Guidelines.

Suspected plagiarism in a submitted or published article may be reported to the Editorial Office at [email protected]. Reports are handled in accordance with the Publication Ethics.
